The Songs of Love Foundation works with a network of songwriters to produce personalized songs for ailing children. Songs of Love volunteers Dave Kinnoin and Jimmy Hammer wrote and produced a song for Lydia Mae Ford, and Sesame Street's Elmo sang it. |
On March 30, 2003, three months after Elmo sang this "song of love" for Lydia, Dave was doing a benefit concert for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at Kimberly High School in Kimberly, Wisconsin. The producer told Dave that she had a special treat for him after the performance. What he saw took his breath away. It was Lydia Mae Ford in her parents' arms! Dave had never met her. She was so adorable! When Dave held her hand and sang her the chorus to her song, Lydia started smiling. This was a moment Dave will never forget.

intro:
Hello, Lydia, it’s Elmo,
And he would love to sing a song to you.
Here Elmo goes!
verse one:
You have two hands.
Elmo has two hands, too!
Elmo’s a lot like you!
You have two feet.
Elmo has two feet, too!
What do you think we should do?
Two hands,
Two feet…
It’s a beautiful day for dancing
Down Sesame Street!
chorus:
Lydia, Lydia,
Oh, what fun to whirl around!
You’re the sweetest girl in town!
Lydia, Lydia.
Lydia, Lydia,
Oh, you make the music play.
Elmo dance with you all day,
Lydia, Lydia!
|
verse two:
You have a big smile.
Elmo has a big smile, too!
That’s because Elmo’s with you!
You have a silly laugh.
Elmo has a silly laugh, too!
What do you think we should do?
Big smile,
Silly laugh…
Whaddya say we find out
How much fun we can have?
(repeat chorus)
bridge:
The Beanie Babies are boppin’ on the blanket!
Enya is bouncin’ to the beat!
Mommy and Daddy and Grandma, too--
They’re getting’ into it. They wanna dance with you!
(repeat chorus)
