Thoughts and Reflections

One day, my younger son was angry at me, and he yelled, "I'm never going to cuddle with you again!" He knew that cuddling with him was my favorite thing. My older son touched my arm and said reassuringly, "Don't worry, Daddy, he always forgets!”

Sometimes I get exasperated when other people make mistakes. I'm tempted to think poorly of them. Sometimes, though, I stop and remember the time I purchased a piece of carpet for my bathroom and carefully measured and cut it. It fit perfectly, as long as the carpet backing was facing up and the nap down! "Aw, Yuckers!," I said, and went to the carpet store to buy another piece. I explained what I'd done and asked for a discount on the second piece. I paid full price. I ate lunch, then measured and cut again...and made the same mistake the second time! Yikes! I went back to the store, paid full price for a third piece of carpet, went home, and did a good job.

That day helped me realize that, like most of us, I'm no genius. I do stick with things until I get them right, though, and I'm glad about that. Also, goofing up that exquisitely helped me be more generous in my attitude toward other goofer-uppers. I have never looked at a piece of bathroom carpet quite the same way since that wacky day!
